  • 40.7kclicks from Google in 6 months
  • 80articles planned in the first 5 days
  • +1,000keywords researched

The starting point: a website Google didn’t know yet

The website had just been indexed: Google hadn’t even crawled it yet. The goal was to reach 30,000 clicks from Google with a content plan for the blog, and we had to move fast.

What I did

Researching the niche’s searches

With the Google Ads Keyword Planner I pulled more than 1,000 keywords from the niche. The research described a market with very little competition, two brands with a lot of influence over their audience and three big topics for the blog with more than enough content for six months.

I filtered the searches by volume and competition, sorted them by topic, audience and direction, and within the first five days I had a plan of 80 articles.

The project’s keyword research

Looking at what was winning on Google

For each main search I checked who came first, how they approached it, what the person’s intent was and which images stood out. That gave me a complete picture of what needed to be published to compete.

The project’s content plan

A structure for each category

I designed an article structure for each category, based on how the ones already ranking first organised their texts. That way the plan moved much faster.

Copying the top results is the easy part, and everyone does it. What works is analysing two or three of the best and adding something they don’t have: that difference is what gives you the chance to rank above them.

Writing to answer and add something more

When writing, I didn’t obsess over where to place each keyword. I asked myself two questions for every article: does it answer what the person came looking for? And does it give them something more than the others?

The first gets you into the race; the second is what makes you win it.

Linking with purpose

Every article links to others on the blog itself and to leading sources in the sector when they add value. Internal links help Google move through the website, and external ones provide context and trust.

What we achieved

In six months, the website went from having no visits to 40.7k clicks from Google, above the 30,000 goal.

What we both gained

What the client gained

A website that in six months went from not existing for Google to 40.7k clicks, above its goal, with a content plan it could keep publishing.

What I took away

In a niche with little competition, speed matters as much as quality. Having the plan ready in five days made it possible to publish consistently from the start, and every article answered a real search with something the others didn’t offer.
